About surfing on Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the Hawaï of Europe, you can find each kind of wave here for each level! (Check out this blog by Evandro Muños about all the beautiful surfspots in Famara and Lanzarote :)) The water is about 18-22 degrees. For surfing we use wetsuits, a mostly a 4/3. (These are included in the surflessons just like the surfboard, leash etc.)

We offer two types of group lessons:
– a day of surf from 10.00-15.00, 75 euro pp (including a snack with fruit, nuts, energybar on the beach)
– a half day of surf is from 10.00-12.30, 50 euro pp
*When you take three lessons or more, there is a discount 🙂

About the surf lessons:
The course is for all levels, from complete beginner to intermediate level. Groups are split by level. Classes are held in small groups to provide individual coaching to each student. You can join and start the course any day. We will ask you to be at the Surf School every day at 10.00 am. You´ll be back at the Surf School around 15.00 pm. The course includes:

  • 2.5 / 4.5 hours per day of theoretical & practical teaching at the beach with qualified instructors,
  • Small groups to offer you personalised attention at all times. Our instructors have a wealth of experience in teaching all levels, from beginners to intermediate & advanced surfers,
  • Equipment rental (board, wetsuit, rash vest),
  • With full day: snack and water at the beach on the days of the course,

More Information & Booking

Bring your swimsuit or bikini, some water to drink, suncream (the best is zink) and flip flops.
At the school you can leave your personal things, get changed and ready for surf!
You can also bring a towel or poncho, but it’s not necessary.

On Surfsafari we go looking for the best spot of the day according to swell, wind and tide conditions. Most spots are reef breaks. Safaris include advanced coaching outside and inside the water, and whenever conditions allow we will also take photos/videos of you surfing.

Coaches are local high-level surfers who are fully qualified for advanced surf training and have an in-depth knowledge of Lanzarote’s spots. Groups are very small with no more than 3/4 surfers.

The Safari includes:

  • Transport to the spots
  • 4 hours per day of coaching inside and outside the water with qualified local coaches in very reduced-size groups (max. 3-4 surfers),
  • Understanding and interpreting the wind and swell forecasts in Lanzarote,
  • Avoiding localism,
  • Equipment rental (board and wetsuit ) if you do not bring your own or if you want to try other boards,
  • Picnic/snacks & refreshments,
  • Photos / Videos whenever conditions allow

Surfsafaris are available every day from Monday to Friday. You can start any day of the week. We will ask you to be at the Surf School at 10:30 and you will be finished around 15:00.

(Please note: this option is for intermediate to advanced surfers: you must at least be able to use rip currents, duck dive and do basic manoeuvres like front and backside turns).

If you wish to change the dates of your yoga or surflesson(s), it is possible to change the date up to 24 hours in advance.

General - About your stay with Lanzasurf

Our surfhouses are in Caleta the Famara and the Lanzasurf surf & yogaschool is in the bungalow area. They are about a 20 minute walk on the beach apart. For the surflessons we have a pickup-service from the town of Famara. And if you have a car you can come by yourself of course.

You can reach Famara from the airport in three ways:

– By taxi or transfer, which is only a 25 minute drive (price 30-40 euro). At the airport you’lee find many taxi’s. Also we can share some contacts with you.
– Another good option is to rent a car for your stay. Often it costs only a bit more than two times a taxi. We can also help you with that.

– You can also take the bus, however it is not an easy connection. It will take about 1 hour or sometimes a bit more. (it’s 4 euros in total, you can check the routes on google maps or rome2rio.

Ps. A few days before your check in, we will add you to a whatsapp group with all the people staying in the surf house. There you can ask if someone will arrive on the same day and time so you might split a cab!

Lanzarote has nice weather all year round. Here in Famara it’s 23 degrees in the day and 18 in the evening.
As Famara is on the north/west coast we also have some wind, so in the evenings it’s nice and not too hot.

For a week stay you can go with one small suitcase normally. You’ll be fine with shorts and shirts, one or two pairs of long trousers, a hoodie and a wind jacket for the evenings. And of course your swimgear and flipflops. If you like you can rent a towel for 5 euro for the whole stay and save some space in your suitcase.

The average age in the surfhouses is from 20 to 40 years. Sometimes a bit younger/older. In the surf lessons it can vary from 6 to 80 years 🙂 Some have never surfed before, and some have been to more surfcamps already and love to surf more. At Lanzasurf we are like a family and share our love for surfing, catching waves together and sharing the good times! You’re sure to make new friends here in Famara, it’ s a magical place 🏝️✨❤️

Besides the activities that you will do together with other people staying in our surf and yoga camp, a few days before your arrival you will be added to our whatsapp group with all the people staying and surfing with Lanzasurf. You can use the group for organising dinners, excursions and other activities together!
We are a surf & yogacamp with group activities and shared accommodation, but you also have a lot of time and space to do what you like.

Famara is a special place situated in a National Park and one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Most people here are into surfing, so you could call it a typical surferstown. It is not very big, and Famara has two areas: the bungalow area where our school is at, and the town where our surfhouses are and where most people in Famara live. There are some nice places to go for food and drinks, but don’t expect a tourist boulevard with many shops, restaurants, clubs etc. Famara is a special and magical place, a place to connect with yourself and with nature, and to share good times! We invite you to  experience it yourself 😉

Services

Besides a snack on the beach (fruits, nuts, energybar) for those who spend a full day surfing with us, we don’t offer meals ourselves.

The town Famara has many places to go for a bite or drink and there are also 3 minimarkets. The kitchen of the surfhouses are fully equipped.

Another nice option is a meal service we work with: they serve a delicious breakfast and a varied dinner in the surfhouse. You can ask us and we’ll send you the info about this meal service.

In Famara there’s no laundry service. Of course you can do a little wash by hand.
(If you are staying longer there is a laundry service in Tinajo, a town nearby.)

The wifi from the surfhouses is normally good to work online.
For meetings in private you can also ask us if our yoga shala is free to use for one or two hours.

Famara does not have a coworkspace. If you like a change of scene, there’s a coffeebar in town with wifi.
There are some coworkspaces in nearby towns such as Teguise, Arrecife, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen.
